about

Following hot on the heels of the debut release Beat of a Drum, North West trio "KEEF" have taken a further step in developing their sonic story against the daily grind and community oppression.

"In This Town" opening verse sets a miserable scene where the home streets are littered with decay and desolation awash with the acrid stench of polluted air from the surrounding refineries. The, what used to be, innocent youths roam the streets looking for their next fix or fight using any discarded toy or piece of furniture as a weapon or target practice. Parents sit at home bone idle living off of a council they despise unable to even go to the shops as everything is either ‘locked down’ or vandalised. Not even the 'key workers' are safe as both dog and cat seem hell bent on terrorising anyone who sets foot in their territory.
It's a town that stays put in time and space, never changing, never expanding.

Frontman and songwriter, Mike Davies, describes it as an "evolutionary 'mess', however, there do exist those who want to break free of the community shackles and make something of themselves".

“The first chorus is a clear stand against the jealous neighbours, the criticism, the abuse, those wobbling the ladder of success hoping for you to fall back down, to fail”

The tonal and rhythmic change in the bridge highlights an interesting moral dilemma, perhaps, "the want to leave one's home but at the same time feeling guilty, or even scared, of doing so", says drummer, Brendan Downing. "There are, after all, the friends, family and the memories."
